Understanding PFAS
Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) include thousands of chemical compounds manufactured for decades and used in everyday consumer products. The strong chemical bonds that make PFAS so useful are the same bonds that make them persistent in the environment.
That persistence increases long-term exposure and susceptibility to known adverse health effects. EPA's National Primary Drinking Water Regulations now establish Maximum Contaminant Levels for several PFAS compounds, and regulatory pressure continues to grow at the federal, state, and local level.
