UNC Asheville: Soil Vapor Extraction System

The Challenge

UNC Asheville's facilities department needed a reliable soil vapor extraction system to remediate petroleum contamination from an underground storage tank release. The site required continuous operation with minimal maintenance and noise restrictions due to proximity to academic buildings.

The Solution

PRM designed and manufactured a custom SVE system featuring:

  • Regenerative blower with sound attenuation enclosure
  • Dual-stage carbon adsorption for vapor treatment
  • UL-listed NEMA 4 control panel with remote monitoring
  • Compact footprint for limited site access
  • Automated operation with alarm notification system

The Results

The system has operated continuously since installation, successfully removing petroleum vapors and meeting all state discharge requirements. UNC Asheville's facilities team reports minimal maintenance requirements and appreciates the automated monitoring that reduces site visits.
